Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is preaching safety for this unofficial end to the summer season.

DEEP says it recruited 77 lifeguards this year for the state's most popular swimming areas.

Through Monday, lifeguards will be stationed at Hammonasset Beach, Rocky Neck, Indian Well, Silver Sands and Squantz Pond State Parks.

Other areas designated for swimming will not have coverage.

And beginning Tuesday, there will be no more lifeguard coverage until next season.

Safety tips include knowing one's limits in the water, always supervising young children, and never using drugs or alcohol in or on the water.
