HARTFORD , CONN (WTIC Radio)-Senator Richard Blumenthal wants United Healthcare investigated by the federal government for what he calls predatory advertising practices for Medicare Advantage plans, affecting 94-thousand low income ,older and disabled dual enrollees already covered by traditional Medicare and Medicaid.
Blumenthal said the obstacles to care are real and extensive when you sign up for Medicare Advantage , if lured away from traditional Medicare and Medicaid proposals.
Blumenthal, at a State Capitol press conference, said for the most part, these plans offer no additional benefits, but adds financial and other burdens, including access.
Sheldon Toubman, of Disability Rights Connecticut, said the Medicare Advantage plans offer a more narrow network than traditional Medicare.
Blumenthal wants these marketing practices investigated, by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, United Healthcare fined
and offering enrollees the opportunity to return to their traditional plans.
Blumenthal said United Healthcare is aware of the thousands of complaints and lawsuits, particularly one filed in California.
