WASHINGTON,CONN.(WTIC RADIO)-Fresh from his trip to the Southwest border, Senator Chris Murphy(D-Conn.)said he's hopeful Congress can approve meaningful immigration reform.
Murphy said he made the trip with a group of bi-partisan Senators that hammered out meaninful gun reform legislation and that fuels his optimism.
Murphy said the legislation has to include a plan prior to asylum seekers reaching the border. He also thinks cases should be expedited and not take as long as five years to process.
The Senator said pressure is on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to garner support for the measure.
He also said efforts to transport immigrants by Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis "weaponized those human beings."
