Seymour Police arrest one of their own in an investigation into the theft of police union funds.

Police say an investigation Connecticut state Police led finds Officer Justin Quilty, 34, the previous President of the local police union, allegedly misappropriated $32,250.80 from the union's bank accounts for personal use.

He is charged with first-degree larceny.

Officer Quilty joined the force in Seymour in 2022 and has been on administrative leave since last October when the investigation began.

The investigation began when officers discovered discrepancies in bank account balances.

A statement from Chief John Bucherati reads: "We are committed to transparency and accountability. These allegations are serious, and we will continue to cooperate fully with the Connecticut State Police while ensuring due process is respected. It is important to note that the actions of one officer do not represent the values of the other sworn officers who serve the citizens of Seymour."
