A significant water main break is impacting several Waterbury neighborhoods and key infrastructure.
The break was reported on Tompkins Street around 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, according to city safety officials.
Tompkins Street is closed while crews make repairs. Electricity was shut off to the nearby W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. Some flooding was reported at the High School.
Waterbury Hospital has shifted to using its secondary water supply to make sure patient care was not disrupted. Tankers were brought to the property.
The break is expected to impact water service throughout the Bunker Hill, Town Plot, and Country Club neighborhoods, according to a statement from the Mayor's Office.
The Waterbury Fire Department is preparing backup plans and may seek help from other towns.
