SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Southington Police arrest two teens in connection with a Chromebook fire that's believed to be tied to a social media challenge.
Police say that on Wednesday, May 7, two the two male students, ages 16 and 17, sparked a fire when they stuck objects into the laptop.
A school staff member had thrown the laptop out of a window before officers arrived at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The two are being charged with reckless burning, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and second-degree breach of peace.
Police say this incident may have been influenced by an apparent TikTok trend referred to as the “Chromebook Challenge,” which involves inserting metal objects into the Chromebook in attempt to cause a fire.
