Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has lifted the burn ban in state parks and forests.

It had been in effect most of the fall due to the inordinately dry conditions that led to some 227 fires.

DEEP says it was the driest period in recorded history until recent rainfall helped to reduce the fire level from extreme to low and moderate.

Officials urge residents to continue to practice fire safety and consult with municipalities when it comes to local burn  regulations.
