SALISBURY, Conn. (AP) — The body of a 38-year-old swimmer missing since last weekend was recovered from the Housatonic River.
Connecticut State Police said they were called to a stretch of the river just before 6 p.m. Friday for the report of a body in the water. The body was later identified as William Dehnel.
Dehnel entered the water on May 15 and did not resurface, prompting a search that was called off on the afternoon on May 16 due to treacherous conditions. The search continued Friday.
A family friend said Dehnel often fished and swam in the Housatonic River and that he was with his girlfriend and another friend when he went missing, according to the Register Citizen.
