HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ A state senator has announced his resignation just ahead of the start of the legislative session.
In a tweet on Sunday, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill announced she has received the resignation of State Senator Carlo Leone (D-Stamford), effective Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

Senator Leone has served since 2011. He is currently the Deputy President Pro Tempore and has co-chaired the Transportation Committee.
He has provided no reason for his resignation.
Governor Ned Lamont has ten days to issue a writ of election to choose a successor in the 27th State Senate district.
Lawmakers are set to convene on Wednesday, January 6, in a new session.
