New Britain, Conn./WTIC Radio - Former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart has apparently not made her first restitution payment to the city for legal expenses incurred during an investigation into her handling of municipal finances.

Mayor Bobby Sanchez in a statement said the city had not received the $102,000 payment by the 4:00 p.m. Wednesday deadline.

This, despite Stewart's public statements that she'll abide by the edict.

Sanchez said he's directing the corporation counsel to explore all legal avenues to secure payment.

"Our administration has been clear from the beginning: taxpayers should not be forced to bear the financial consequences of the actions of former public officials" Sanchez said.

"We remain committed to making the City whole and will take all appropriate legal action necessary to recover these funds."

Stewart also owes the city a $107,000 repayment for separation pay, as well as $31,000 she billed it for her master's degree tuition.

Stewart is also accused of running up over $200,000 in personal expenses on her city credit card during her as mayor.

She ultimately dropped her bid for the Republican nomination for governor after the allegations came to light.
