Don't expect to find too many cheap places to rent in Connecticut, not according to the the latest National Low Income
Housing coalition report. It ranks Connecticut as the tenth most expensive state for rents. On average, the report finds
Connecticut renters must earn about 22 and a half dollars an hour to comfortably afford even a one
bedroom apartment. Comfortably afford means families should not spend more than 39 percent of their income on
housing. How much you need for that depends what part of Connecticut you live in. In Windham County, you can rent
comfortably earning a little over 22 dolalrs an hour, while in Stamford and Norwalk, you need to pull in close to
43 an hour to be comfortable. Connecticut minimum age earners would have to work 64 hours a week to afford a one bedroom
apartment.
