MANCHESTER, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police arrest a Manchester man in connection with a wrong-way crash earlier this week.

Police say William Gerlack, 35, was allegedly driving the wrong-way on I-384 near Exit 4 around 5:28 p.m. Wednesday when the pickup truck he was driving struck a Toyota Camry traveling in the correct direction.

Police say Gerlack allegedly drove away from the scene, but witnesses were able to get a description of his truck and Connecticut registration.

Manchester Police Officers assisting with the investigation located a pickup truck matching the description provided on Candlewood Drive in Manchester a half a mile away from the accident scene.

Police observed Gerlack was exhibiting signs of possible impairment. He agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which he failed.

During a search of Gerlack’s person, troopers discovered a plastic bag containing suspected Xanax pills, which were seized and processed as evidence.

Gerlack, who is out on a $25,000 bond, has been charged with evading a motor vehicle accident, driving the wrong way, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and possession of a controlled substance, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
