SOUTHBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A Southbury teenager is dead after state police say the Jeep he was driving crashed, and he and a passenger were thrown into the Pomperaug River.
Ryan Rutledge, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene off of Roxbury Road Monday night, said police. A 16-year-old girl who was in the front passenger seat was taken to Waterbury Hospital with serious injuries, they said.
Police say the Jeep Wrangler that Rutledge was driving left the road, went through a guardrail and down an embankment and into the water around 10:30 p.m.
When emergency crews arrived, both teens were in the water, said police.
Anyone with information on the crash is urged to contact Southbury police at 203-264-5912.
