The City of Waterbury is currently responding to a break in a 42-inch water transmission line located on Waterbury Road in Thomaston, approximately one mile from the Waterburyline. This transmission line is part of Waterbury’s water system.
Crews from the Waterbury Bureau of Water, along with Dayton Construction, are on site and actively evaluating the situation. Excavation is underway to determine the full extent of the damage.
The affected section of the main is located prior to the area of Thomaston Avenue that previously underwent sliplining work, part of a $13 million infrastructure project completed earlier this year.
The line has been shut down, and repair preparations are already in progress. Most necessary materials are on hand, with a small number of additional parts expected to arrive within the next one to two days.
At this time, no residents or businesses are expected to lose water service.
Some customers may have experienced a temporary drop in water pressure or discolored water. Any discoloration should resolve shortly. Residents who notice discolored water are advised to run their faucets until the water runs clear.
Waterbury Road in Thomaston will be closed and detoured in the area of the break until repairs are completed.
The city will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available.
