A student who attends Trinity College in Hartford is identified as one of the three men of Palestinian descent shot over the weekend near the University of Vermont in Burlington.
The ADC -- the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee -- identifies the victim as 20-year-old Tahsheen Ahmed.
A statement from the ADC says that the other two victims are also 20 years old, identifying them as Hisham Awartani
of Brown University and Kinnan Abdalhamid from Haverford University.
While the three were wearing kuffiyeh head scarves and speaking Arabic, the ADC says that a gunman shouted at and harassed the victims and then shot them.
Burlington police identify the suspect as a "white male with a handgun." Differing slightly from the ADC statement,
the police say the gunmen approached the students and then "without speaking" shot them at least four times.
Police say that each of the three was shot in the torso and one has very serious injuries.
Burlington Police Chief Jon Murad says "in this charged moment, no one can look at this incident and not suspect that it may have been a hate-motivated crime."
