Shelton police released few details on the case surrounding Trumbull police Sergeant Matthew Perkowski.

They do say the 33-year-old turned himself in Tuesday to Shelton police based on a warrant.

It stems from complaints filed by the alleged victim in September 2020.

Perkowski is facing charges of sexual assault in the first degree and assault in the second degree.

Trumbull police say Perkowski has been placed on administrative leave and his police powers have been removed, as well.

Trumbull Police Chief Michael Lombardo said the allegations will be "reviewed and investigated by the Office of Internal Affairs".

Lombardo said "these accusations present a very serious personnel matter that will be handled appropriately".

Perkowski is free on $150,000 bond pending a court appearance in Derby.
