A mother and her adult son are charged in connection with the homicide of a Groton teenager in April.

Police say New London High School senior D'Nazia Uzzle, 17, was found fatally injured in the early morning of April 15 at 392 Jefferson Ave. in New London, the home of Erica Cherry, 40, and N'Shon Cherry, 19.

In ruling the girl's death a homicide, the Office of the Chief Medical examiner said Uzzle died of neck compression and blunt injuries.

Erica and N'Shon Cherry were also hospitalized that morning, both with non-life-threatening stab wounds.

The Day of New London identifies N'Shon Cherry as Uzzle's boyfriend and the son of Erica Cherry.

They both face the same charges in the case:

--accessory to commit manslaughter in the first degree

--accessory to commit strangulation in the first degree

--reckless endangerment in the first degree

--assault in the third degree

--cruelty to persons

At arraignment on Thursday, N'Shon Cherry was ordered held on $250 thousand bail and Erica Cherry was held on $200 thousand bail.

An obituary says D'Nazia Uzzle was a member of the girls basketball team at New London High and "was known for her passion, loyalty to her family and friends and her sense of humor."
