SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The South Windsor Fire Department says two dogs are dead after a house fire late Wednesday night.
Fire fighters responded to the report of a possible fire in the 300 block of Smith Street around 10 p.m.
There had been some reports dogs were still trapped inside the burning home while the family was safe and not inside the house.
Neighbors and residents were trying to get the dogs out of the house when crews arrived.
Once the fire was extinguished, the dogs were found to have died.
Officials say the family had been away from the house and returned to the situation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
