FAIRFIED, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Fairfield-based Save the Children organization reports two of its employees are missing following a Christmas Day-attack in Myanmar.

Officials, in a written statement, say the two staff members were traveling home for the holidays after conducting humanitarian response work in the Kayah State of the Eastern Myanmar community.

The workers were caught up in an attack. There is confirmation, according to Save the Children, their private vehicle was among a number that were attacked and burned out.

The Military, according to the statement, reportedly forced people from their cars. Some were arrested. Others were killed. There were bodies burned in the attack.

“Save the Children condemns this attack as a breach of International Humanitarian Law," says Inger Ashing, Chief Executive of Save the Children. "...We are horrified at the violence carried out against innocent civilians and our staff, who are dedicated humanitarians, supporting millions of children in need across Myanmar."
