After teaming up for a national championship in Storrs, two of UConn’s greatest will be back together in Dallas, starring for the WNBA’s Wings.

The Wings made sharpshooting guard Azzi Fudd the top overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft on Monday night in New York.

In Dallas, Fudd will join fellow 2025 national champion Paige Bueckers, the top pick last year and the league’s reigning Rookie of the Year.

“I’m excited to play again with Paige,” Fudd told ESPN. “She’s an incredible person, and incredible player. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

Fudd is the 7th top overall pick and the 29th first round pick in UConn women’s basketball history.

The Connecticut Sun, going into their final season at Mohegan Sun, chose UConn center/forward Serah Williams in the third round, then traded her to the Portland Fire.

The Sun also selected forward Nell Angloma of France (12th overall) and guard Gianna Kneepkens of UCLA (15th) in the first round and guard Charlisse Leger-Walker of UCLA in the second round.

While many of Fudd's UConn teammates were in the audience at the draft, ESPN’s Alexa Philippou reported that Huskies coach Geno Auriemma did not attend. He’s attending services for Norm Myers, the husband of UConn program assistant Peggy Myers. Norm died of brain cancer last month.
