VERNON, Conn. (WTIC Radio)_ U.S. Representative Joe Courtney, for Connecticut's second district, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Representative Courtney reports mild symptoms after he came in contact with someone last week who tested positive for COVID-19 in the following days.
“Upon learning of that initial exposure, I immediately began following the strict isolation guidelines...after my first test came back negative, I continued to isolate but began to experience mild symptoms," reports Representative Courtney.
On Sunday evening, he was notified his second test came back positive.
While he remains in isolation, he insists "I’ve got a lot of confidence in my treating doctor and in my team—our work for eastern Connecticut will continue as always, and I’ll keep performing my duties in a safe, remote fashion while isolated at my home."
His colleague, Representative Jahana Hayes of the fifth district, who tested positive for the coronavirus in September, released a statement on Twitter to wish him well.
