New Haven, Conn./WTIC Radio - The Connecticut inspector general's office has released additional information and police body cam footage of an incident in New Haven Wednesday in which a Yale University police officer discharged his duty weapon.
Officers were called to the scene of a parking lot on Whitney Avenue for an apparent suicidal individual.
Police found Jose Cubiz, 48, in the back seat of the vehicle, stabbing himself.
The preliminary investigation determined that Officer Ancil Farrier fired twice in order to break the car windows and pull Cubiz out of the vehicle.
Cubiz was not hit by gunfire but he was bleeding heavily from self-inflicted stab wounds and rushed to an area hospital.
No police officers were injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
The inspector general says Cubiz had been in prison previously for robbery and other offenses.
