Waterbury police investigate fatal motorcycle accident

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A man that was in a motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon has died in the hospital, Waterbury police said.

Officers responded to the accident at about 5:35 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of South Main Street and Market Square where police said they found a motorcycle on the ground and the operator standing nearby.

Nygil Craig, 28, of Waterbury reported to police that he dropped his motorcycle while trying to avoid an unknown vehicle that, he said, cut him off.

According to police, the other reported vehicle was not in the area.

When located, police said Craig was alert and conscious with visible road rash on his arms, legs and back.

Craig was transported to Saint Mary's Hospital for evaluation and further treatment, police said.

Medical staff later pronounced him dead, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.
