It's called the Vision Zero Initiative.

Mayor Shari Cantor is expected to introduce the resoluation at tomorrow night's town council meeting.

It will call for the town manager to empanel a task force with a community advisory committee.

Rick Ledwith says the town has begun to address the issue already, with short term answers, after which a final report will be released later this year.

“Public safety is always a top priority, and a lot of the work done by the Vision Zero Task Force will complement initiatives the Town is already engaged in,” said Ledwith.

He said a number of street safety initiatives have already been completed or begun.

So called "tactical urbanism projects" are temporary and low-cost, including the use of signs, cones, barrels and tape.

If they work, officials say they then become permanent.
