Mask mandate eases Wednesday in CT

Those who aren't fully vaccinated should keep masks "on" indoors

For the fully vaccinated, Connecticut's mask mandate ends Wednesday, with exceptions. Gov. Ned Lamont says masks should still be worn in locations including schools, healthcare facilities, prisons and on public transit.

The governor says the unvaccinated should continue to wear masks indoors. They'll be on the honor system, for now. There's no fine for those who refuse.

"I think if people were purposely defiant in making life complicated for the Stew Leonard's of this world," says Lamont, "yes, I think we would institute a fine then. I hope that doesn't happen."

Stew Leonard himself appeared on the governor's Monday COVID-19 news conference, saying that while his workers will continue to be masked in the store, vaccinated customers won't have to be.

"Everybody's still coming in with their masks on," says Leonard. "I'm interested to see what will happen Wednesday... We've got a trickle of customers coming in already, saying they would like to not wear a mask, and we asked are they vaccinated, and they said 'yes,' and we let them in. I haven't any complaints from customers in the store."
