One day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended mask use indoors where there is "substantial" or "high" COVID-19 transmission, Hartford and New London counties reached that status.

Hartford County now has 54 cases per 100,000 residents and New London County has 53.5 per 100,000, both exceeding the minimum of 50 per 100,000 for "substantial" transmission.

New Haven County later crossed the same threshold and became an area with "substantial" community transmission.

"When in doubt, wear a mask," Dr. Syed Hussain, Chief Clinical Officer at Trinity Health of New England, said. "We know masks have protected people throughout this pandemic. They continue to be one of our best tools against this virus." He spoke to WTIC's Dave Mager:

As of Thursday afternoon, the positive COVID test rate statewide is at 2.35%. 112 patients in Connecticut are hospitalized with the virus.
