Patrick McCaughey, the Ridgefield man seen on video using a riot shield to attack a D.C. Metro Police officer, has been indicted on nine counts by a federal grand jury. Several new charges refer to an alleged assault on a second officer.
McCaughey, 23, remains in federal custody. On Jan. 6, he was among hundreds of supporters of then-President Donald Trump who barged into the U.S. Capitol in a failed attempt to interfere with the usually routine, Constitutional certification of electoral votes.
Prosecutors previously described the videotaped attack on D.C. Metro Police Officer Daniel Hodges, writing that McCaughey "can be seen using a clear police riot shield to physically push against the left side of Officer Hodges’ body. Officer Hodges was pinned between the clear police riot shield being held by MCCAUGHEY and the lower west terrace door. Officer Hodges appeared to be loudly crying out in pain."
In newly released documents, prosecutors allege that McCaughey obstructed a second D.C. Metro Police officer, identified by the initials H.F.
McCaughey now faces the following charges:
--two counts of Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon
--two counts of Civil Disorder
--Obstruction of an Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting
--Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon
--Engaging in Physical Violence in a Restricted Building or Grounds with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon
--Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building
--Act of Physical Violence in the Capitol Grounds or Buildings.
