The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said a father shot and killed his three children inside a church in the Arden Arcade area before shooting and killing himself. According to a CBS 13 reporter at the scene, the father appeared to be on a supervised visit with his kids when he opened fire in the church.
Authorities said there is also a fifth person who is dead, but no further information was released about the victim, KPIX reported. It is believed they may have been a chaperone.
A church worker who was upstairs heard the shots shortly after 5 p.m. and went outside to call dispatchers, the sheriff's office said.
Roads along Wyda and Ethan Ways are closed while deputies are investigating.
Gov. Gavin Newsom took to Twitter to announce that they are actively monitoring the shooting and working closely with local law enforcement. "Our thoughts are with the community, parishioners, and all those impacted by this horrific event," Newsom wrote.
All three children were under the age of 15.
