For many Americans who will be casting a Presidential vote this fall, one of the most frustrating and trying stretches in the country’s history was the COVID era that took hold in 2020, the final year of Donald Trump’s Presidency.
But now four years removed from those troubled times, it seems the gauzy veil of nostalgia is whisking that stretch of history to the back of people’s minds, according to a new poll. And that could spell trouble for President Joe Biden’s bid to once again defeat Trump in the race for the White House.
The poll, conducted by The New York Times/Siena College, asked “what one thing do you remember most about Donald Trump’s Presidency?”
“COVID” ranked dead last in the poll at just 4%. And in more bad news for Biden: “January 6” has also been relegated to the back of the line, registering just ahead of COVID at 5%.
Biden has been seeking to remind voters of those two pieces of the Trump Presidency in recent speeches, and he has about six months to get that message across if he desires before Americans head to the polls in November.
There could be a silver lining in the poll for the current President though: The #1 thing people said they remembered was “Trump’s behavior” at 39%, though the poll didn’t specify whether people thought that behavior to be bad or good.
The poll surveyed 1,000 voters nationwide.
