New Jersey police were sent on a wild deer chase last month when they found that a deer had smashed its way into an elementary school. The entirety of the chase also happened to be caught on camera.

The incident at Cedar Grove Elementary School took place at around 10 p.m. on Nov. 24 after a man walking his dog saw the deer break into a window at the school, police shared with NBC Philadelphia.

The Toms River Police Department was then called, and officers entered the school to locate the deer and help it escape.

Police body camera footage posted to Instagram on Thursday shows the officers following the deer as it tries to run down a hallway and into a classroom.

In the spirit of good fun, the department also added “Run Rudolph Run” to the video posted online.

The deer, later named Rudolph by the officers, can be seen jumping on a bookshelf in the classroom and scattering items all over the classroom as officers try to catch it.

Eventually, with the help of a dog snare, the officers were able to guide Rudolph to a rear door so it could exit the building.

Police said the animal did not appear to be seriously injured by the accident.

The deer was later seen running north away from the school, and police told the media outlet that it was maybe headed “toward the North Pole.”
