Cash App has restored some services but customers still have limited access to their money after the mobile payment platform experienced a widespread outage on Thursday.

The company has been posting updates on its website since the problems started Thursday afternoon.

The disruption initially impacted all services, with the company telling users not to make any peer-to-peer payments, cash card purchases, or log out of their accounts.

Nearly five hours after first acknowledging the problem, the company said it had identified the cause and was actively working to get services back online.

As of Friday morning, Cash App says users can add cash, manage and make purchases with Cash Cards, buy Bitcoin and more, but it was still working to get the ability to send payments and cash out back up and running.

Cash App did not elaborate on what was causing the issue, but it did confirm the platform was not hacked.

Payment processing app Square, which is owned by the same parent company, also experienced outage problems on Thursday that left some small businesses unable to access accounts or process payments.

In its latest update Friday morning, Square the disruption has been resolved. It also said sellers may encounter delays in certain services.

"We understand how important it is to have your business tools fully operational, and for this reason, our engineering team is currently engaged in discussions to prevent similar disruptions from happening in the future," Square said in a statement. "Once this disruption has been fully investigated, we plan to publish a full review of this issue and determine what steps we can take to prevent it from happening again."
