A café in Dubai is serving what it calls the world’s most expensive cup of coffee, priced at about $980 and brewed from ultra-rare beans sourced from Panama.
The beans were purchased at auction for roughly $600,000, making them among the highest-priced coffee beans ever sold.
The café describes the drink as having delicate floral and fruity notes more reminiscent of tea than traditional coffee. Only a limited quantity of the beans is available worldwide, and Dubai is one of the few places offering the specialty brew to customers.
"The wait is finally over," Serkan Sagsoz, co-founder of the Julith cafe where the drink will be served, said in a Facebook video. "The world's most celebrated and highest graded coffee of all time has arrived."
The café says the drink is attracting global attention from coffee enthusiasts and curious travelers. The offering underscores Dubai’s growing presence in luxury dining and high-end culinary experiences.
So, is there a market for a nearly $1,000 cup of Joe? Only time will tell, but Sagsoz thinks so. He told the media outlet AFP that Judith plans to serve "around 400 cups" a day.
