A Pennsylvania parent was arrested on Wednesday after they entered their child’s school cafeteria to “have lunch” with their son, authorities shared.
California Area School District Superintendent Laura Jacob addressed the incident in a letter, sharing that it happened at 10:45 a.m. The school is located in Washington County, just outside Pittsburgh.
The letter did not clarify who the parent was, but did share that they had come to the charter school for a parent-teacher conference.
Jacob wrote that the parent had “blatantly disregarded all directives” to go to the conference room at the school and instead went to the cafeteria to “have lunch with their son.”
The parent then allegedly challenged “further directives” from school staff and police, resulting in them being “escorted out of the building, handcuffed and arrested.”
According to the letter, a “no trespass” order was set to be issued against the parent.
“If a parent or any other individual disregards these protocols by accessing the building unattended, it is a breach of school security, leading to arrest and legal action under trespassing laws and school safety policies,” Jacob said.
The California Borough Police Department has not provided further information on the arrest.
