(HARTFORD, CONN. WTIC)-The Taliban has agreed to allow two hundred Americans and "other foreigners" to leave Kabul, Afghanistan.

However, Senator Richard Blumenthal is calling for the State Department to step it up to ensure safe passage of the more than seven hundred remaining there.

No agreement has been reached for those stranded in Mazar-I-Sharif.

The State Department apparently wants greater vetting performed on some of those waiting to travel here.

According to Blumenthal, they are not terrorists and he adds the vetting process is just a means of "presenting a red herring."

Blumenthal also said he fears the mistreatment of women in Afghanistan calling it a humanitarian crisis.

Blumenthal appeared on the WTIC morning show.
