In an all-caps Saturday post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump indicated that he will be arrested on Tuesday of next week,” and urged his supporters to “protest, take our nation back.”
Trump’s post referenced the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, which has been investigating the former president.
Per CBS News, this investigation is related to a $130,000 “hush money” payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. She and Trump allegedly had sex when she was 27 and he was 60, while he was married to his current wife, Melania Trump.
“CNN’s John Miller reported that meetings have been going on throughout the week between city, state and federal law enforcement agencies in New York City about how to prepare for a possible indictment of Trump,” said the outlet of the most recent steps in the investigation.
It also said that Trump’s legal team has been expecting an indictment and has been “preparing behind the scenes.”
“The former president is expected to present himself in Manhattan following the formal charges and has expressed interest in making a speech after,” it said. Trump has been invited to appear before a grand jury.
While “hush money” payments aren’t illegal, according to CNN, prosecutors are investigating whether Trump falsified Trump Organization business records – particularly in regards to payment of Michael Cohen, who said he advanced Daniels money.
“Does anybody believe that SleazeBag disbarred lawyer Michael Cohen went before a Grand Jury yesterday, and did little but talk about it today?” said Trump in another Truth Social post this week. He also called his former “fixer” a “total loser” and referred to Daniels as “horseface.”
Trump appeared to refer to himself as the “far and away leading Republican candidate,” for the 2024 presidential election in his Saturday post. According to CNN poll results released this week, Trump was in the lead of the pack of Republican candidates at 40%, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with 36%.
Last May, Audacy reported that most Americans believed Trump should be arrested for a different reason – his role in the Capitol riot. Protestors stormed the Capitol after President Joe Biden beat Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
