(Hartford, Conn./WTIC) - Horses found neglected at a farm last year are now available for adoption.
The equines were malnourished and in need of medical care when found last September at Laurel Ledge Farm in the Oakdale section of Montville.
A complaint led to state officials to urge the owner, Michelle Wilson, to seek medical care for the animals.
Some were in need of dental and hoof care while another had a severe bacterial infection.
Of the eight horses found, one had to be put down.
The survivors were treated at a rehab program in Niantic.
Now, state attorney general William Tong and agriculture commissioner Bryan Hurlburt say suitable homes for the horses are being sought through ct.gov/doag.
Applications will be accepted through March 5.
As for Wilson, she's facing nine counts of animal cruelty.
