(New Haven, Conn./WTIC) - City officials in New Haven want to shut down a planned motorcycle gathering on Saturday before it starts.

The East Coastin' event bring thousands of riders to the city each year around this time, showing off their vehicles and doing tricks and stunts that last year clogged city streets and, in the words of Police Chief Renee Dominguez, caused chaos.

She says there was chaos and lawbreaking.

Not only that the chief says regular police resources had to be pulled in some instances to get a handle on the bikers.

Permits were not issued and the chief says they will make arrests if the situation warrants.

Despite the event being "canceled" the group says on its Facebook page they intend to go on with the gathering regardless.
