As the Trump Campaign revved up a multi-state legal challenge to the election results that are projected to lift Joe Biden close to a White House-clinching 270 electoral votes, protestors energetically criticized the president's effort to slam the brakes on the counting of legally filed votes.

In a rally on the State Capitol steps, Connecticut's otherwise mild-mannered lieutenant governor, Susan Bysiewicz, demanded that states be allowed to "count every damn vote." She was backed up by fellow elected officials and a chanting crowd of a few hundred people.

The event was organized by the Working Families Party, which held a corresponding event today in New Haven and plans a bigger rally this weekend.

Hartford City Councilman Josh Michtom said it's not easy for Hartford residents, who are mostly African American or Hispanic, to accept any outcome of the election, especially with what protestors consider an effort by Trump to discount hundreds of thousands of minority votes.

"There's folks for whom this is a matter of life and death," said Michtom, "literally, in terms of access to services, in terms of the way the federal government tries to take them away from their familes."
