(Washington, D.C. WTIC)-Connecticut Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy are predicting passage of two gun control measures, with action occurring possibly today.
One measure involves background checks and the second, called the Charleston loophole prevents someone with a criminal background from bypassing the background check process.
The second bill is named after the shooter who killed nine parishioners at a Charleston, South Carolina Church in 2015.
Advocates say support is near unanimous for background checks, even by members of the NRA.
Both Senators argue no reason exists why a person can't wait three days for a background check to clear before purchasing a weapon.
Supporters say the reasons are clear for passage: 30 people a day die from someone using a gun. If you include suicides and accidental shootings, those numbers increase to 100 deaths a day.
Additionally, they say gun violence costs taxpayers $280 Billion every year.
