(Hartford, Conn.WTIC)-The legislature held an informational session before two committees, considering measures to ban smoking at the the casinos, run by the state's two Native American tribes.
But the Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Rodney Butler, says any decision is up to the tribes and the legislature should avoid interfering. He says the Pequots are concerned with the health and safety of its workers as evidenced through the compact with the state.
Experts testified that the air quality has improved since the tribes became smoke free.
Mother of four Heather Sanford testified she suffers from asthma and emphysema and she doesn't want to have to choose between her job and her family.
