(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-After returning from a five-day trip to Qatar, Oman and Jordan, U-S Senator Chris Murphy called for the U-S to return to the Iran Nuclear Deal, saying it would help de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.
Admitting it's difficult to set aside the narrative in the Middle East with the constant exchange of rocket fire, Murphy says there's something positive afoot in the region. He says the four- year long rift between Qatar and its Gulf neighbors is healing, yielding a new diplomatic energy behind cease fire talks. He says this is happening because President Biden has made it clear that de-escalation will be rewarded and supported by the United States. Murphy is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He says the Biden Administration also needs to appoint an Ambassador to Israel to help in mediation talks.
Murphy appeared virtually before the Middle East Institute Views from the Hill program.
