CT Secretary of the State Denise Merrill says voter turnout could reach 80-percent

Some Towns Have Still Not Reported Absentee Ballot Results
Ct Secretary of the State says percentage of those voting highest she remembers.

(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-Voter turnout from Election 2020 could reach 80-percent, so says Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

She says 25-percent of absentee ballots were counted prior to the election.

Regarding the turnout, Merrill said, "Those numbers are very high, an extraordinary turnout really."

2.3 million Connecticut residents registered to vote.

"We're hoping to get a complete count by the end of today. There are still a number of close races around Connecticut so that's what everyone is looking at. So far not every town has reported the complete absentee ballot results.", Merrill tells WTIC News.

The legislature took a step this year to expand the use of absentee ballots because of COVID-19.

Merrill says she favors that scenario and would like to see it remain after COVID has vanished.
