“It’s the economy stupid.”
That quote from Democratic strategist James Carville in 1992 appeared to hold true across the county on Election Night.
Former President Donald Trump is now President-Elect Trump after the Republican beat Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris in major battleground states including Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia and, most importantly, Pennsylvania. Trump won both the Electoral College vote and the popular vote.
According to the Associated Press, exit polling showed that voters in the Keystone State were overwhelmingly concerned about the economy when they cast their ballots. And a majority of them chose Trump as the man they believed was best equipped to fix it.
43 percent of voters mentioned the economy when discussing the issues that mattered to them most.
Just 20 percent named immigration.
Both the economy and immigration were strong platforms for the GOP during the election cycle.
Other issues named were abortion at 13 percent and health care at 7 percent, both of which were pivotal themes in Kamala Harris' bid to gain the White House, but was ultimately a message that didn't resonate strongly enough with voters in the so-called 'blue wall' states.
