Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam has tapped former police chief and retired state public safety commissioner James Rovella as the city's interim chief.
The search for a permanent top cop continues after Philadelphia police Captain Tyrell McCoy turned down an offer to take the job for personal reasons earlier this month.
Rovella served as Hartford chief from 2012 to 2018.
He retired as public safety commissioner in 2023 along with the then commander of the Connecticut State Police following a scandal involving falsified traffic stop tickets.
Assistant Police Chief Kenny Howell has led the department since the retirement of former chief Jason Thody.
