(Hartford, Conn. WTIC)-The Co-Chair of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee predicts sports betting gains approval in the 2021 legislative session.
Guilford State Representative Sean Scanlon says " our neighboring states are getting this done. It's just a huge opportunity not to get this done. The state needs the revenue and I'm confident we'll get this done in 2021."
Scanlon says sports gambling could generate between 60 and 100-million dollars, set up through a third-party app.
In the past the state's two tribes have opposed Connecticut's efforts for sports gambling, but he feels" the tribe have been great partners to us when it comes to gambling for the last twenty years. I feel that they deserve a seat at the table on this. And i'm confident between all the players we'll get a deal done in 2021."
Scanlon also says he hopes they can find ways to put money aside for those struggling with gambling addiction. He adds, "Many just want to stay home and place a bet while watching a sports event."
