Trump on Wednesday was declared the winner in Michigan, bringing him to a total 292 electoral votes

(WWJ) Republican Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, as Republicans reclaimed control of the Senate, picking up seats in West Virginia and Ohio.

With a win in Wisconsin, Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency.

Just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Associated Press declared Trump the winner in Michigan — which brings him to 292 electoral votes.

As the final votes are counted in our state, we'll have up-to-the-minute election results on WWJ Newsradio 950 — on 950 AM, streaming live on the Audacy app, and here on our website.

As Michiganders cast their votes on Tuesday, there were some disruptions at a handful of voting precincts -- including a gas leak in Northville and a number of non-credible bomb threats -- though officials say the day went mostly smoothly.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson confirmed Wednesday afternoon the state saw its highest ever voter turnout in the 2024 election with more than 5.67 million ballots cast. That amounts to 79% of the state's registered voters.

Aside from the Presidential race, eyes have been on several other Michigan races, including the contest between Democrat Elissa Slotkin and Republican Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with most of the votes counted, the Associated Press declared Slotkin had won the seat being vacated by longtime Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who is retiring after four terms.

Rogers conceded, and congratulated Slotkin on her victory, saying: "I wish her the best as she serves the people of Michigan in the Senate. I am humbled and honored for the millions of Michiganders who embraced our campaign, shared their thoughts, their concerns, their ideas, and put their faith and trust in me to serve our great state as their U.S. Senator." There are two new members of Congress in the state of Michigan.

The open 7th Congressional District seat in mid-Michigan vacated by Elissa Slotkin has been filled by Republican Tom Barrett, who beat Democrat Curtis Hertel. In the 10th district, U.S. Rep. John James best Democrat Carl Marlinga, again. In 2022, James beat him by less than half a percentage point.

Republican Bill Huizenga and Tim Walberg were both reelected to their seats, and Democrats Debbie Dingell, Hillary Scholten, and Rashida Tlaib won their districts by wide margins. (Scroll down this page for more detailed results.)

Macomb County is officially reporting its final numbers.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham won his race over Republican Terence Mekoski, in a tight race, and Republican Prosecutor Pete Lucido beat democratic challenger Christina Hines.

The Michigan Supreme Court looked poised to widen its liberal majority to five seats to two, as incumbent Justice Kyra Harris Bolden held a lead over Patrick O'Grady and Kimberly Thomas was in line to beat Andrew Fink in the race to fill the seat being vacated by retiring conservative justice David Viviano.

Michigan Supreme Court seats are technically nonpartisan, but candidates are nominated at political party conventions. Democrat-backed nominees have held a 4-3 majority since 2020.
