(WWJ) — Violent J, one half of Detroit-born rap group Insane Clown Posse, recently said he supports Kamala Harris in next month’s presidential election — because he loves his mom.
In a recent segment on “The Daily Show,” interviewer Troy Iwata visited the “Gathering of the Juggalos” in Ohio — a large festival of ICP fans and other acts in the “murder clown genre” — and spoke to Juggalos about the upcoming election.
In the satirical piece, the interviewer learned that fans of the band are largely apathetic about the election.
One Juggalo said “hell no” when asked if he would be voting, while another explained they wouldn’t be voting “because, like, you’re voting for two people who pretty much don’t care about your existence.”
“Juggalos don’t get involved in politics,” one person said, while another suggested “the world would be a better place” if a Juggalo were in the White House.
So Iwata sat down with Violent J and asked if he’d accept a nomination.
“F*** that. No,” he replied, bluntly. He would go on to say of Harris, “I want her to win because she’s a Democrat and I love my mom. That’s it.”
When he officially learned how to say Harris’ first name, he said, “that’s fresh.”
“So Violent J is backing Harris. See, not all Juggalos are sitting this election out,” Iwata said. “Now, what are the odds he’s gonna remember to vote on Nov. 5?”
Albeit in a much more official — and less eccentric — manner, another Detroit rapper also recently showed support for the Harris campaign. Eminem on Tuesday appeared at a rally at Detroit’s Huntington Place, where he introduced former President Barack Obama, who rapped the opening lines of “Lose Yourself” as he took the stage.
Obama’s speech in Detroit was one of numerous campaign stops in the Detroit area in the final stretch before the election as candidates and surrogates from both the Democratic and Republican tickets are looking to not only sway voters, but encourage Michiganders to get out and vote.
Republican nominee Donald Trump was also at Huntington Place last week, where he spoke on the importance of the auto industry to Metro Detroit, Michigan and the U.S. as a whole, reiterating his interest in utilizing “giant tariffs” on Chinese and Mexican-made cars in particular. He vowed those tariffs would be 100%, “and if that doesn’t work, I’ll go to 200%.”
Republican VP nominee U.S. Sen. JD Vance is planning a Thursday evening visit to Waterford Township, where he's expected to deliver remarks at the Elite Jet Center at Contact. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will be somewhere in Michigan Saturday with Vice President Kamala Harris for a rally.
