(Avon, Conn./WTIC) - Authorities looking for two missing Plainville teenagers in the Farmington River suspended the search Friday afternoon due to weather-related concerns, officials with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said.
The search is expected to resume at around 8 a.m. Saturday, DEEP officials said.
The search began Thursday night and resumed Friday morning for the two missing teenagers who were thought to have gone swimming earlier that day in the Farmington River in Avon.
State Environmental Conservation Police Captain Keith Williams said they're being assisted by Avon police and the Connecticut State Police dive team.
A vehicle was found at School Street and New Road believed to have belonged to one of the males, along with some personal items, Williams said.
According to DEEP official Meghan Bard, personal belongings were found on the banks of the river on DEEP property near an old pump house, including their clothing, sneakers and cell phones.
That area of the Farmington River is a popular spot for swimmers in the summer, Williams said.
However, Williams said it's particularly dangerous due the the recent heavy rains that have brought the water level up considerably, along with strong currents.
Anyone with any information on the missing teens is urged to contact the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection at (860) 424-3333 or call 911.
