NEW HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio)—It seems many were eager to hit the slopes since Ski Sundown is opening up the season with a sold-out weekend.

Ski Sundown in New Hartford opens Saturday for its 2020-2021 season with six out of sixteen trails available and COVID-19 guidelines in place.

The resort will be operating at 50% capacity and guests are being asked to make purchases online before arrival in order to regulate attendance.

According to Marketing Director Ulla Jacobs, safety precaution efforts have been in the works since the pandemic first began back in late March/early April.

"There's been a lot of regulations that have changed over that time so we've been trying to keep up with everything that's been adjusted and needed to be changed," Jacobs said.

That includes plexi-glass barriers and ramped-up cleaning procedures to ensure the sanitation of high contact areas.

Though it's been a difficult time financially for many amid the pandemic, Jacobs says customers have supported Ski Sundown to the point where tickets were sold out for the first weekend of the new season.

"We've been so lucky that our customers have been so loyal and they want us to do well," Jacobs said.

Currently, only six trails are open on the mountain, including an easier trail, three more difficult trails and two most difficult trails.

The goal is to open all sixteen trails in the near future, Jacobs said.

Ski Sundown will be operating on its normal schedule from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.

Information about COVID-19 guidelines, purchases and holiday operating hours are available on the Ski Sundown website.
