(Washington, D.C. WTIC)- Appearing before a House Judiciary subcommmittee, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong testified in support of bankruptcy law reform, targeting the opioid epidemic.

Tong wants to close a loophole by Purdue Pharma that he says allows the Sackler family to escape accountability for their direct participation in causing the opioid epidemic.

Tong says the bankruptcy plan provides a lifetime shield to the  Sackler family. He says they made at least eleven billion dollars in profits by producing Oxycontin. Tong says the Sackler family shouldn't  be eligible for bankruptcy protection because they're not bankrupt.
